How to Have Stiff Sheets Using a Polyester Blend to Soften

Polyester-blend sheets, unlike 100 percent cotton sheets, defy wrinkles. Manufacturers frequently blend polyester with cotton for the delicate, cool texture without the creases that come with all-cotton fabric. But new polyester-blend sheets may be stiff if you take them out of this package due to the dyes and chemical therapies such as industrial starch. Properly wash and dry your new polyester-blend bedding to help remove these chemicals. Even in case you prefer not to use fabric softener, then it’s still possible to get your sheets soft and clean.

Top-Loading Washing Machines

Set the machine for a big, warm wash and standard cycle.

Add gentle, bleach-free, softener-free soap to your washing machine because it fills with water.

Place the sheets in the machine once it finishes filling with water. Shut the lid to begin the agitation.

Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle.

Front-Loading Machines

Set the machine for a big, warm wash and standard cycle.

Fill out the fabric-softener dispenser with vinegar.

Place the sheets in the washing machine, shut the door and allow the cycle to operate.

Drying

Place the sheets in the dryer and add two tennis balls or dryer balls.

Set the dryer to the minimal heat or permanent-press setting.

Remove the sheets from the dryer as soon as they are dry.
