How to Remove the Cloudy Finish a Dining Room Table

It can be caused by time and exposure to sunlight, however more often than not, a cloudy finish on your dining table is caused by mixing several types of cleansers and polishes. What might look like cloudy wax accumulation actually is the wax softening and separating. Using cleaners that only soften the surface of the wax are the main culprits. Placing hot dishes on the table , having a lot of moisture in the atmosphere or having conditions which are too dry can all cause the wax to lose its shine. Removing the cloudy layer of wax and replacing it with a brand new layer will make your table shining again.

Soak a clean, soft rag in mineral spirits.

Wipe the cloudy area with the cloth, with long strokes which fit the grain of their timber. The wax finish should begin to look hazy and dreary as it’s being removed. Work in small sections if there’s a large area of cloudiness to be removed.

Dry the area with a separate clean, soft rag.

Repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 at least twice on precisely the exact same place, with a clean rag every single time in order that the wax is removed, not just spread around.

Continue Steps 1 through 4 until the whole cloudy surface of the table was cleaned with mineral spirits, then dried using a clean rag.
