Landscape Waterfalls & Fountains

Landscape waterfalls and fountains provide a focal point in your garden. The sound of trickling water helps create a feeling of tranquility. While there are lots of styles of waterfalls and fountains available, it’s also likely to make your own to produce a design that’s a perfect match for your garden layout.

Benefits

Flowing water provides a feeling of tranquility as you listen to it. It can also mask unwanted sounds, like nearby traffic. Waterfalls and fountains keep water going and replenish the air from the water. This is necessary if you have fish in your garden pond. Flowing water keeps mosquitoes and other insects from breeding in it.

Materials

The possibilities of fountain materials are limitless. Kits are available to enable you to create fountains and waterfalls out of ordinary household materials, like vintage cooking pots or plastic containers. Decide on the material that blends best with the spot in the garden where you plan to set the water attribute. As you believe materials, keep in mind you do need to seek out containers that do not leak. If the water feature might freeze in the winter, select materials that won’t break. Some organic materials to contemplate include bamboo, slate and natural stone. Wood makes a natural-looking base to get a fountain or waterfall, but you want to line it with EPDM, which is a thick plastic liner. Manmade materials which make great fountains include fiberglass, glass, resin and metals. Some metals, like copper, change color when exposed to the elements and blend together with the surrounding plants.

Maintenance

Air will cause some evaporation as the water splashes down the nest or tinkles from the fountain. If you do not maintain an adequate source of water at the fountain or waterfall, you face the danger of damaging the water feature’s pump. If algae grow from the fountain or waterfall, you might need to bring an algaecide to dominate it. Wipe the water attribute down occasionally to clean it. It is a fantastic idea to change the water three or four times a year. Drain the fountain and waterfall at the end of the season and set the drained pump within a storage shed. If the water feature might break if it freezes, bring it indoors to protect it.

Attributes

Whether you pick a ready-made water feature or build your own, then you may add a range of special features. Adjustable flow control enables you to change the speed of the water as it flows through the feature, which also alters the sound of the feature. If you do not want the waterfall or oven to stream when you’re not home, then add a timer to set the hours of surgery. Adding lights into the water feature allows you to enjoy it during the day and early morning hours. If an outlet is not located nearby to operate the water attribute, pumps which operate on solar power are available.
