Tenant Cleaning Checklist

When vacating your lease, the ideal time to begin cleaning is after you have packed up all your personal things and moved them to one location, such as the garage or moving van. With the house empty of your personal belongings, you may begin cleaning the property. Your landlord might supply you with a tenant cleaning checklist, or you’ll be able to create your own.

Cabinets

Inspect cupboards and all the cabinets. Make certain that you did not forget to pack something. Remove all items from such storage areas and properly dispose of any trash or unwanted posts. If necessary, sweep or wipe out the cabinets and wipe off any visible fingerprints or smudges.

Junk

Gather up all the debris and filled trash bags. Place the items in outside trashcans or dumpster to get the garbage collector, or haul the refuse off the property and then take it to an proper landfill. This includes picking up all pet dander, lawn clippings and garbage in the yard.

Toilet and Laundry

In each bathroom and laundry room, decorate the bathtub or shower, sink, counter and toilet tops. Wipe down the shower enclosure or wash off the shower curtain. Clean the cushions and polish the fittings. Flush all the toilets. Wipe down the washer and drier, and remove the lint from the dryer’s lint trap.

Kitchen

Wash the chimney, scour the sink and wipe down all of the appliances. In the event the lease includes a refrigerator, make sure it is empty, and wipe down its exterior and interior. Wash down all refrigerator drawers, shelving and pockets. Clean the oven and burners. Sweep or vacuum under the bottom oven drawer. Polish the fittings and wipe down the outside of the cabinets.

Dust

Proceed through the house with a dustmop, eliminating dust from ceiling fans, window coverings, window sills, door frames, baseboards, vents and other surfaces. If the property has air-conditioner filters, then change them if necessary. If necessary, wipe smudges or dirt from doors, electrical switch plates and other surfaces.

Fireplace

If the house has a fireplace, then clean out the fireplace and eliminate all wood and ashes. Make certain that you do this job when there are not any warm embers.

Glass

Clean all glass and mirror surfaces throughout the house. This includes mirrored closet doors, glass sliding doors, windows and any hanging mirrors.

Flooring

Among the last cleaning jobs entails washing the floors. After eliminating all items in the home, floors need sweeping or vacuuming. Hard surface floors may demand cleaning, and carpets might require shampooing and or spotting to eliminate stains. Sweep up patio areas, walkways and the garage floor.
